If you are interested in maximizing your crowdfunding success, don’t miss this interview with three professors who have done the work to understand the motivations and behaviors of crowdfunding supporters.

Their research highlights three conclusions: Serious academic research in the nascent field of crowdfunding is limited, but Gordon Burtch of the University of Minnesota, Anindya Ghose of New York University and Sunil Wattal of Temple University have recently published their study of contribution patterns in crowdfunding.

1) Altruism is a key motivator of donations.

2) The longer a campaign runs the better the post-campaign results.

3) As more money is raised, the size of donations declines.

We’ll explore these conclusions and the implications of these results with the authors in the interview.
